Riverside, New Jersey, – February 6, 2007 - Sea Gull Lighting Products, LLC, a Generation Brands company, announced today that it has entered into an affiliate partnership with the California Lighting Technology Center of UC Davis, CA to assist in the development, education, and adoption of high efficacy ENERGY STAR® qualified and California Title 24 compliant lighting fixtures.
In addition, Sea Gull Lighting and its Generation Brands’ partners will develop a new line of residential lighting fixtures using solid state lighting technology, commonly known as Light Emitting Diodes, (or LED) in conjunction with the engineering expertise of the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) team.
“Our new concepts coupled together with the CLTC talent will accelerate the adoption of advanced energy efficient technologies into the main stream residential market before we start facing dramatic power and environmental concerns. Sea Gull Lighting’s access to the major U.S. homebuilders, its drive to reduce power consumption, and market dominance in this category are all strengthened by our new affiliation with the CLTC,” stated Manuel Lynch, Director of Product Technology for Sea Gull Lighting.
In addition to product development initiatives, Sea Gull Lighting and the CLTC will present extensive educational training to its varied market constitutes. “How energy efficient products can be decorative and attractive”, and “new controls that will further reduce power consumption in the residential home environment” are just two of the training topics planned by the groups.
“The California Lighting Technology Center looks forward to partnering with Sea Gull Lighting in developing and advancing next generation lighting technologies to save energy in the Californian marketplace. At CLTC, we see industry partnerships as a major opportunity to help overcome both knowledge and market barriers to energy efficiency opportunities,” commented Michael Siminovitch, director of the California Lighting Technology Center.
“I have an extensive working relationship with Dr. Michael Siminovitch and his team of talented engineers,” adds Manuel Lynch, Director of Product Technology for Sea Gull Lighting. In his past role as CEO of Permlight Products, Mr. Lynch had worked with the CLTC to educate California homebuilders on how LED technologies could greatly reduce both power and environmental hazards generated by power generation.
Commenting on the affiliation, Jeff Beiter, Director, Business Development of Energy Efficient Products for Sea Gull Lighting said, “The residential lighting fixture marketplace as we know it is maturing. New highly efficient and decorative ‘green’ products that use a fraction of the power are available today and consumers are buying them. Our new high efficacy LED offering will be a great compliment to our already successful ENERGY STAR lines, and is a natural progression in our product continuum”.
Lighting designer and author, Randall Whitehead feels that “Sea Gull Lighting is definitely on the right track. Homeowners are hungry for energy efficient light fixtures that are also attractive. There has always been a big chasm between what is good for the environment and what is good looking. I am happy to see that a major manufacturer of affordable products is stepping up to the plate.”
